Some of best Beach you should visit in Sri Lanka
The interior of Sri Lanka offers much to discover, but the breathtaking
heat and humidity will surely drive you back to the coastal areas. Many of Sri
Lanka's best beaches are located on the southwest coast, where you can enjoy
blue water, snorkeling, surfing waves and even migratory whales.
Sri Lanka is divided into two monsoon seasons. You can find
sunshine and dry weather in some parts of the island at any time of the year -
but if you are planning a day trip to the beach, the best time to visit Sri
Lanka is from mid-November to April. Those who visit during the monsoon season
can take a bus from the rainy side of the island to the dry side. Many
beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka are waiting for you!
Mirissa
In recent years, its attractiveness and proximity to
Unawatuna have led to growth and development, but Mirissa has always been
popular with tourists and budget travelers. The "Surfer's Corner" at
the far right of the bay provides entertainment waves (and entertainment for
spectators), but only experienced persons should try because of the rocks.
The rest of Mirissa, however, is a fair sport for beginners
surfing and boogie boarding, and a rocky island accessible on foot offers a
unique photo opportunity. The small village of Mirissa is located along a long
strip of brown sand consisting of a guest house and a beach restaurant. You can
usually find good seafood here, and the beaches alternate between hosting night
parties and small fireworks displays.
Mirissa is also a popular destination for whale watching
during the migration season between December and March. Excursions can be
booked by any of the various agents. Dolphins are also sometimes seen. If you
want to save money on accommodation, go shopping for guest houses down the
street.
How to reach Mirissa beach
Mirissa can be reached by taking one of the southbound
public buses bound for Matara along the main highway. If you are not in a
hurry, the most spectacular and memorable option is to take the slow train from
Colombo Fort to Weligama and then take the fast train from Weligama to Mirissa.
Unawatuna Beach
Unawatuna is considered by many to be the best beach in Sri
Lanka and serves as the default destination for non-surfing tourists for a
short vacation. The cozy beach can be reached in less than 15 minutes from end
to end. The small bay of Unawatuna keeps the waves relatively calm compared to
other beaches. The attraction of Unawatuna is largely due to its layout and
accessibility.
The small access road parallel to the beach keeps people
away from the busy main road. The narrow road through Unawatuna is lined with
small shops, cafes, guesthouses and restaurants selling moonstone jewelry. If
you're looking for a little more activity, take a tuk-tuk to Jungle Beach, a
fun snooker spot with lots of turtles and exotic birds.
How to reach Unawatuna Beach
Unawatuna is located about 90 miles south of Colombo. Rent a
private car and driver to travel on the busy Coastal Expressway (A2), or plan
to spend two to three hours on crowded public transportation. Taking the
Southern Expressway (E01) is not spectacular but there is little time left.
Arugam Bay
On the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka, the shores of the
Gulf of Arugam Bay have long been busier with fishing boats than tourists - but
with excellent surfing and relaxing locals, Arugam's popularity continues to
grow. However, this area tends to attract a lot of backpackers and waves. In
2019, Arugam Bay hosted a large pro-surfing competition, a testament to the
quantity and quality of surfing available.
As the bay attracts a mix of skill levels, serious surfers
are tempted to grab a tuk-tuk and head to the lesser-known beaches on the
beach. If you are an intermediate-level explorer exploring the Indian Ocean,
Arugam Bay is fun - don't forget about the hidden cliffs. The surfing season
peaks from July to September. Roadside huts and restaurants begin to barbecue
fish in the evenings, encouraging seafood lovers to gather. However, close to
its center, there are also wonderful restaurants, cafes and bars, where you can
find international cuisine and bohemian outdoor terraces.
How to reach Arugam Bay
Arugam Bay is the exact opposite of Colombo in the western
part of Sri Lanka, but you should visit Wildlife Sanctuaries and National
Parks. Plan a seven-hour drive by car to reach Arugam Bay from the airport.
Weligama Beach
Weligama, a favorite destination for quiet, calm, and novice
surfers, is a small alternative to the busy beaches in the north. Midigama is
directly adjacent to Weligama and is to be developed as another of the best
beaches in Sri Lanka. Many visitors come to Weligama only to take photographs
of some of Sri Lanka's most famous stick fishermen. Famous by travel
photographers, they are largely lost.
You will find several boutique hotels scattered throughout
Weligama and many more surf "camps" along the main road. Fishing
boats are usually more frequented by visitors during the off-season, and daily
seafood is readily available when sea conditions improve.
One of the highlights of the Weligama area is Taprobane
Island, a small rocky island with pristine villas built by Count de Mauni after
his deportation from France. In addition to assessing the scenic beauty and
sandy beaches of the region, you can explore many activities during your visit
to Sri Lanka.
How to reach Weligama Beach
Take any bus bound for Matara between Colombo and Galle and
reach Weligama in the south. For a more scenic, relaxing experience, take the
train from Colombo to Weligama.
Trincomalee Beach
Trincomalee Beach and Nilaveli Beach are completely
different from other beaches in Sri Lanka. Due to their location, beyond the
racetrack on the east coast, you can see that this beach is almost empty. The
Trincomalee coastline is quite busy, full of traditional, colorful fishing
boats and locals throwing nets off the coast.
You can also find some great beach bars here, where you can
sit on the swing and choose from many refreshing cocktails. Rent a motorbike
and after 10 minutes on a small sandy road, you will find the Nilaveli beach. Nilaveli
Beach is a long, endless body of white sand backed by shallow, crystalline blue
waters that look unbelievably good. For the best snooker, jump into a boat from
Nilaveli Beach to Pigeon Island (about 10 minutes). This Paradise Island has
some of the best snorkeling in Sri Lanka!
You can relax in the restaurants and cabanas on the beach
watching the fishermen pull their nets. Near Trincomalee, it is an important
center for the Tamil culture of Sri Lanka. You will see and hear the impact
everywhere.
How to reach Trincomalee Beach
Trincomalee Coast is located about 3.5 miles north of the
outskirts of Trincomalee, one of the largest cities on the east coast of Sri
Lanka. Expressway (A6) connecting Colombo and Trincomalee has been cut across
Sri Lanka in order. It takes six to seven hours to reach Trincomalee by car;
Then you can take a taxi a short distance to Trincomalee beach.
