Temple of the Tooth
Also known as the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the
Tooth is the most important Buddhist shrine in Sri Lanka. It is believed that
the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha was kept, and after its cremation in
India, it was taken from his body and smuggled to Sri Lanka, where it ended up
in Kandy. Plan a morning tour to avoid the crowds and visit the legendary Tooth
Relic of the Buddha. The temple is a must-visit in Kandy not only for its
religious reputation as one of the most important shrines in Buddhism but also
for its beautiful interiors!

Bahiravokanda Vihara
A beautiful statue above the city is the large white Buddha known locally as Kandy or the Bhairavokanda Temple. The statue at the top of the hill is not only an attraction, but also has spectacular views of the entire city. In my opinion the best time to go is sunrise and it is the time when the light on the face of the Buddha is best seen.
