Jaffna Library
Jaffna Library is considered one of the most important

1959. It was founded by Alfred Duraiappah, then Mayor of Jaffna. This library
construction like Indo-Saracenic style. The
library was devastated by the 1981 Jaffna Civil War. At that time this library
was considered to be the largest library in Asia. It contained about 97,000
books and manuscripts.

Nallur Kovil

main feature of this Nallur temple is the golden arch and the elongated Gopuram.

old structure of this building was demolished by the Portuguese in the year
1620. This temple is now considered to be the main venue for any kind of

Jaffna Fort

The fort is located near the town of Karaiyur. This fort is also known as the Fortress of Our Lady of the Wonders of Jaffna. The fort was captured by the Dutch invaders in 1658 and recaptured by the British in 1795. The fort was captured by the LTTE from 1986 to 1995 and recaptured by the Sri Lankan Army in 1995.
